    What to do with your Tartan after you design one.
    As some of you know I spent some time last year designing a Tartan for my adopted city of Victoria, BC.

    In August of 2009 it was registered with the Scottish Tartans Authority as #7992.

    This month the Tartan was officially adopted by City Council.

    Here is the description;

    "The six colors used for this Tartan are those found on the Poles of the First Peoples of our Province. They are then arranged with the Blue to represent the Ocean that surrounds us. The Green to represent our Forests and Green Spaces. The Black to represent the Roads that connect us. The Red to represent the bricks of our Heritage Buildings. The White and Yellow are to represent the 'Splash of Color' from our City's Hanging Baskets."

    Here is a scan of the Tartan.

    And here is the local TV report on the adoption by the City.

    Great story, Steve! I think the story was really good, and you came across well. Congratulations!
    It was nice to see Mayor Fortin wearing it at our Robbie Burns Supper on Saturday night, too.

    I'm just coming down from the media blitz the Mayor set in motion for the adoption of this Tartan.
    In one week I was on the Radio with the CBC and local CFAX.
    I was in the paper three times. Once on the front page.
    And on TV twice.
    And in front of the Victoria City Council.
    Then there was the Victoria Police Pipe Band Burns Dinner where I put a Kilt's worth of the fabric in the silent auction and it went for almost twice what it cost me.
    All in all a whirlwind week.

    I put a few bids in on that fabric Steve. The photos dont do it justice. I was talking to the mayor that night and he was tickled that he had pockets in his kilt...It's a beautiful creation and you should be proud!!!

    A double moment of pride for me -- not only is my good friend Steve Ashton the subject of the report, but Maggie Cox the reporter is a graduate of our program (and well remembered as one of my best students).

    Small world, ain't it?
