Re: Viking Burial Discovered in Scotland
The thing that makes this an important discovery is the fact that it is on the mainland. There have been Viking ship burials found in the Orkneys but never one on the NW coast of the mainland.
Will be interesting to follow this through and see what the finds tell us. There are of course other ship burials that have been found in the UK probably the most famous of these was the discovery at Sutton Hoo which is a fascinating day out and well worth a visit.
Re: Viking Burial Discovered in Scotland
Them vikings sure got around, didn't they? Every so often we have to re-write our history books when we discover "Oops, the vikings were here first".
Re: Viking Burial Discovered in Scotland
Saw a brief overview of some of the artefacts on the local news. There's certainly a sword (very corroded) and parts of a shield. Time will tell a lot no doubt.

Whilst I do find these sorts of discoveries fascinating and whilst not being of a religious mind, I do get an uneasy feeling that we are intruding just that wee bit too far into our past.

I read about this earlier today. Great find. I wonder what else they'll 'dig' up. Looking forward to seeing photos of the ship and artifacts.
