    Doc Martens "Bennett"
I picked up a new pair of shoes the other day from Dr. Martens and am quite pleased with them so far. They are a recent release and are called the Bennett. The sole is slimmer than the usual Airwair, though traditionalists will probably say it is still too thick to be dressy. There is another model that is a small step dressier called the Bronson but I don't think they are available yet in Hong Kong.

Closed laces, plain toe, and very comfortable. Here is picture of mine, though I'm still building up the shine on them. What does everyone think?

Here they are in action on Burn's Night. Not the most appropriate shoes for black tie, but they are the best I had with me here and I think they made do in a pinch.

See...those are nice and I'd bet they'll hold up well.

Adequately shiny for my taste....I'm sure that the contingent that requires a shine on a par with a front surface mirror used in a NASA space telescope won't approve but, having gone through eight years of Catholic Grammar School, I just can't get the nuns' admonitions about the reflective properties of black patent leather shoes out of my mind....

They seem a good and practical shoe that would serve well for a long walk on a country road or to a formal dinner. As long as they had a proper shine I can't see anyone commenting about them in a negative light at a formal event.

The amazing celebrity chef and author Alton Brown of Good Eats would call them "multitaskers" * :D

    Cheers

    * Though actually his use of the term is incorrect

I think they're quite nice, and in a pinch they were a suitable substitute for a leather soled Oxford. Although you can never have your shoes TOO shiny.

I personally wouldn't buy them, the sole is a bit thick, as is the body of the shoe over the middle of the foot.

I guess when I think Doc Marten I think

I like the look of them. Footwear, for me, is one place where fit and comfort will trump just about everything else.

Those shoes look nice. I also like your Braemar cuff jacket, and four button waistcoat! I like that style much better than the typical Prince Charlie.

Thank you, sir! The Braemar cuff jacket and four button waistcoat are part of my search for a classic style that avoids the cookie-cutter look.

Doc's are awesome ,You can not go wrong wearing Doc's.

I can remeber a time when the doc's were Banned in My High School and we could not wear them .

The school broad said they were Skin Head boots and we could not wear them. I bought a pair recently and wear them every day now.:D

Quite the opposite in one HS here...they mandated that all students wear Hush Puppies because they didn't scuff the floors. Okay...this WAS in the not-so-swingin' sixties...but wow!
