Celtic pipe and drum band Clanadonia, what kind of kilt
I have looked at a celtic pipe and drum band called Clanadonia, and was wondering what knid of kilt are they wearing.
Sorry I have no link on the U-Tube site, I am very rudimentary in my computer abilities.
Someone would be needed to help me.

Here is a pic from their facebook page that shows the tartan and kilt they wear.

The style of kilt they are wearing is, what is commonly called, the belted plaid.

That's a Pipes & Drum band? Very curious. BTW belted plaids back in the day (18th century) were worn higher than that, with the entire kneecap showing.
So these guys are wearing belted plaids but are doing the current Pipe Band thing of wearing the kilts too low and hiding the knees.

They are entertaining and good crowd pleasers, a good rugged sound.

Aren't they wearing two belts? The first holding the great kilt up. Then after all the spare material has fallen or folded down, a second belt for show?

    Regards

I recognize at least two of these guys as having been in Clann an Drumma and/or Albannach (both 'tribal drumming' bands). The bands are very heavy on bass drums and/or bodhrans with a piper and a couple of other instruments providing the 'melody'. Some people find them entertaining.

I was in luck when I came across them on U tubes, I guess they appeal to my "tribal" side

I'll pass. This doesn't do much for me... two out-of-tune pipers playing up and down the scale while a couple drummer bang out a simple pattern on funky-sounding drums. Well at least near the end the pipers start playing a bit of a tune!

I'll take actual Pipe Band stuff any day... groups of good musicians, drummers playing sophisticated scores and good pipers, all playing interesting music, like this

    From http://www.freakmusic.co.uk/bands/clanadonia

Traditional tribal drums and pipes band Clanadonia began as a close combat stunt crew for film and TV, most notably, Braveheart, Gladiator, King Arthur and The New World, effectively forming during the breaks in filming.

Individual Members of Clanadonia, have been entertaining for over ten years, their high energy blend of tribal rhythms, bagpipes and tartan clad mayhem, has wowed audiences across the globe.

Manager/Band Member Tu-Bardh Wilson, toured the USA for six years, performing at Highland Games and Celtic Festivals. He also performed at the Walls of Rememberence in Washington DC and New Jersey, with backing vocals for the song Sgt MacKenzie, written, composed and sung by the late Mr Joe Kilna MacKenzie. This was the title song in the Mel Gibson and Randall Wallace film "We Were Soldiers" and the song was lauded by the general public as well as our own Armed Forces who, along with other forces regularly perform the song at events.

As to the original question, the kilts are the ones they wore as extras in the movie Braveheart.
