My wife and I went to a concert in St. Joseph, Michigan, last night to hear Dick Hensold, a gifted musician who specializes in pipes (more below).

Since it happened to be National Tartan Day, I wore my Holyrood tartan kilt with an Irish Sweater.

I was the only one kilted last night, but received several compliments and questions and provided the sound tech with the X Marks the Scot web address during intermission. Later he said he looked at the site on his I-Phone while the musician was playing! He is looking to buy his first kilt.

Mr. Hensold played seven different instruments during the concert, mostly the Northumbrian smallpipes, but also the Scottish Reel Pipes, a Swedish bagpipe called the Sackpipa, a Recorder, a Low whistle, a Norwegian Seljeflote, and a Welsh Pibgorn. He also gave comentary on the history of the pipes and on the background of the music. He said the Northumbrian pipes are very suitable for playing fiddle tunes and played selections including variations on the Robert Burns tune My Ain Kind Dearie, and Cape Breton tunes.
All together a very enjoyable evening. I picked up one of his CDs and have been listening to it this morning.
