A caution to new registration

We are currently experiencing a huge increase in attempts by spammers to register to X Marks. We may have ended up on some spammer list or it just may be the spammers probing the entire web looking for weak sites.

X Marks actively screens every new registration in an effort to keep this forum free from the spam and ads from spammers.

As the favorite tool for spammers are VPN services and TOR we are currently taking extra caution from any new registration using one of these services.

If you register to X Marks and are using a VPN or TOR please understand that the use of these services may result in your acceptance being delayed or rejected outright as these services may have also been used by a spammer and may show up on the published lists of spammers.

I just saw this sporran on Ebay

Normal in every way, Made In Scotland stamped, but where the centre tassel would be, is instead something that looks like the stud which is used for Day sporrans to attach the closure strap.

Why on earth would that stud be in the middle of the front?

Never seen that before!

Could it be for adding swappable crests? I.e. one sporran with different badges that you can swap out for dad's clan, mum's clan, thistle, etc?

I guess they lost one tassel and then thought that a hole doesn't look to good. Ergo they filled the hole with something and the stud-thing is quite an easy way to do this.

I agree with Martin, possibly used with a band.

I would question whether it is in fact deer skin? I don't know of that many white deer in Scotland, butt I own one in similar colour and construction which is seal skin.

I'll eat my own foot if it's not seal skin.
The hair on seal is very 'glassy' and doesn't look like any other fur I've ever seen.

I agree. Probably sealskin clandestinely being sold as deerskin and probably a filler stud.
