Score on a USAKilts 4 yard Box Pleat kilt.....
    All,

    Hi I'm Johnnie & I'm an addict!

In the past month I've joined this fine board and gone from one solid black heavy cotton twill kilt to now owning not only the black one but three tartans as well, two in wool and one PV.....wait did I say three tartan models, I meant four....because the eBay monster struck again this morning!!! ;)

Say hello to this beauty which I purchased today and should be here by this coming Tuesday....it is a wool 4 yard box pleat model from USAKilts in a gorgeous red tartan, of which I have no idea of clan and hope someone can help me with, and I think I'm loving the box pleating quite a bit!!

In conclusion I know I'm not the only addict but someone needs to help me stop before I have more kilts than closet space!! =)

Thank you^^^^ I looked on their site but can find no mention of them making a box pleat model, but they obviously did at one point in time!

Johnnieboots, you`ve got it bad. It looks like you have been doing pretty well on ebay, I must say. I believe Rocky at USA kilts toyed with the idea of doing box pleated kilts, but decided against it, I don`t think he made too many, so you may have a bit of a collectors item there. Good job!

If, as you say, they only did a few box pleats then I too am fortunate. Johnnieboots you have a fine kilt and USA kilts does a wonderful job making them. I latched onto an offering of a box pleated Canadian Maple Leaf tartan kilt this past year. I think they were finishing up a run of tartan they had and I was the lucky one to call first when they offered it. Mac created mine and the box pleats are quite nice. Photo to prove it below.

And one of the front. I just love the Maple leaf in fall

It may well be that USA Kilts only offered a few so Johnnieboots we are in good company.

I believe that you are correct in saying that they experimented with the idea and decided that it wasn't the best route for them to go. Shame. I'd have liked a box pleat from Rocky as he's one of my absolute favourite kiltmakers!

The tartan you have, Johnnieboots, is the Scott Red Modern. It was one of 4 or 5 Box pleated kilts that we've made. CAN we make them? Yes. Do we LIKE making them? No (we're not fond of the 2" pleats and ironing them is very time consuming). That's why we don't have them on our site.
