I have found a place reasonably near where I live that will make custom sgians dubh they use 1075 high carbon steel. These are fairly simple designs, more casual functioning designs. That being said they can have brass copper or steel collars etc. I am looking for some opinions. Brass cap on the end of the handle? They can do different woods for the handle should it be black stained or lighter colour?
Again remember this is not for formal wear what say you

The knives I made for myself are these woods and metals. My oldest is an Eastern Cedar with a silver cap and Opal inset stone. The next is a goat horn handle, copper wrap (instead of cap) around a tiger eye stone. The last (I consider my formal sgain) is Black Cherry that is infused by burning dark walnut stain into the pores. There is no cap and I inset a raw Topaz into the end. All three of my handles are shaped to fit the material (ie, curl of the cedar, nodes of the horn exterior and ability to shape the cherry to a classic design).

I feel that darker woods will show silver or chrome better and lighter woods can make brass, copper and pewter work.

I think that a darker leather sheath would look better with all the knives shown in the link.

Yes it came through very well......ThanxAttachment 31813 I made my own out a carving knife that my father used to cut the Sunday roast with.....It really does have special memories....for the sheath I used a bit of a belt I had that was stamped with a Celtic theme (it became far too short to go around my accumulated wealth Heh! heh!)
