Im not sure the status on REI but I was just on Moosejaw and did a check of ElKommandos there. They have them on sale for 59.99 with the medium and large on back order with ship dates in mid May. Check them out or see if REI has their back order ones in yet.

My biggest complaint is the lack of belt loops because they come with an integrated belt. Has anyone tried ading beltloops to them? I figure a good tailor can easily add them.

Yeah, I recently found a source for all sizes discounted but shipping CONUS only is an animal I dislike. :? The hiking kilt looks pretty decent with its integrated canvas belt. This is what I am talking about: http://www.zappos.com/mountain-hardw...fcTest=fcl%3A0

It's only downfall is when you are truly out hiking in the bush. It doesn't do much to keep out ticks and other bitey critters. It's great for mowing the lawn or other outdoor activity that doesn't involve the deeps woods.
Since it packs really small, I jam it into my small pack when I go cycling. That way I can throw it on if I have to go into someone's house or a store and not have to show off my package in my cycling tights.

I wish they made a ladies version. Somehow my full length Macabis aren't cutting it now that I have kilts on the brain. http://www.macabiskirt.com

im not sure if MEC will ship to the US but they do make a cycling skirt that is the same material and colour as the elkommando. It also fastens the same way. There's really nothing cycling specific about other than its marketing. My wife wears hers hiking, running and cycling.

Thank you, I will check that out.

Regarding belt loops, I made my own. I had a size large that I should have exchanged. While hiking my pack waist belt would nudge the kilt down a bit. It annoyed me dragging on my knees while climbing steep hills so I shortened the hem a bit. I then had matching material for belt loops. The provided belt slipped loose a little but my regular one doesn't. All problems solved.
The next year I used my REI dividend and 20% discount for the next smaller size. I still had belt loop material and used it. I wear it everywhere on weekends and have a belt to hang phone and Leatherman on. Gotta have those belt loops.

I just did a trip down memory lane. The Elkommando was my first pleated kilt and led me to where I am now - total kilt addict. I bought more than a few EKs between 9/13 and 9/22/2010 wiping out everyones stock of size medium and some smalls as I knew they were no longer made and at the time MH had no plans to make them again.
Too much of a pleonasm for me this time. The second to only thing that sucks with the Elkommando is the CONUS shipping. It is hard enough to compete with the credit card possessed people in the USA but the shipping barrier is another hassle. You have to create a virtual mail forwarding address etc. I 'd like to pay via pay buddy or paypal. Another thing is the drop, it is at the upper edge and I don't wanted to wear a kilt mini skirt.

Folks, it looks like the Elkommando kilt isn't exactly pleated all arround to the apron. :naughty: Am I wrong or does it ends up half the size of the cargo pockets? What a lame kilt designer tries to trick me into buying his stuff? Yeah I am picky, I don't care if a kilt is made of toilet paper but it has to be a full fledged kilt. :p
