Available sizes are too big for me, but $19/ea. looks like a great deal for larger gents!

I bought 2...with/25% sale price was US$14.25 each. Thanks Richrail! I've watched these for a while (I regularly wear vests anyway. They're probably too long for a kilt, but that isn't exactly why a bought these. If they work with the kilt, that much better!

Thanks for the tip. That does indeed look like a great sale.

My only question was, were they cut (in length) for pants or kilts. I was told that in the back they are 24" in length from the top of the neckline to the bottom. I measured my kilt vests and they vary from 22" to 24" in length. So, it appears these vests will indeed work with a kilt (for me anyway). :)

By the way, you get an additional 25% off during checkout, so the final cost is $14.25 each. With shipping and tax my cost was $17.77 each. Not bad, but I hope it doesn't turn out to be one of those "too good to be true" stories.

Bummer! They're sold out of XXL already.

I really like the 'grey/tan' more patterned one.

I'm an "S", but my wee brother was quite pleased to find quality discounted waistcoats in his size. :-) Thanks for posting, Richrail!

Sorry to read that. I bought XL so I wasn't competing with you. :) Being between an L and XL, I just hope they are a good fit.

Someone just buy 'em all! There are no tweed waistcoats on the UK site. They do have some others - around 100 quid a go. Orvis sell decent quality stuff so this is a great bargain.

picked up two XLs. Probably a little on the large size for me, but I figure I can get them brought in. Thanks for the heads-up.

Seems as though they were all snatched up, "unavailable". Great deal for those able to get one or two!

Has anybody ever tried to return something to Orvis for a refund? There is a sweater I like, but you know - size, fit, weight, etc.

I did the customer chat thing before I made my purchase and they said 100% refund or exchange only thing is you pay the shipping back.

Yes, thanks Richrail; I read their guarantee - just wondered if anybody had tried to use it.

    Father,

I regularly purchase from Orvis. Their linen shirts are the bee's knees for a humid Florida summer!

I can personally attest that their return service works as advertised. They are good folks to deal with, though they can be a bit pricey.

I got two, one XL in one color and one XXL in another. I too and kind of between sizes, depending on the manufacturer and style. And I too was aced out of one of my choices by one of you mates who closed the checkout before I did, or I would have had another XXL in a different color.
If I find that one size does not adequately cover my grand girth I promise to offer it up here at my costs plus shipping to one of you chaps who was not lucky enough to beat the rush.

I just checked this sale on a whim and they have the light brown available in XXL. I grabbed one, don't know how long the rest will last.

If the XL sizing is analogous, then it might fit me, because I am between L and XL. I'll find out tomorrow. According to UPS tracking, the package is trundling it's way up from Albuquerque as we write.

mine came in yesterday. They're XLs and, as expected, will need some tailoring to fit well. Great material though and the backs are a thicker material than I expected. I think they'll be great once they fit correctly. I plan on getting on that tomorrow.

I wonder if folks are returning them as "odd fitting" and others are repurchasing them. :) I'll find out about mine tomorrow.

My XLs just came in. They must be a bit smaller than canonical XLs (whatever that means), because they fit me well - just a hair snug, and I'm between an L and an XL. I expected them to be a bit large on me. They are slightly over 24" down the back, but 1/2" at the most. So, I think they will look fine with a kilt.

Unsurprisingly, the cloth (fore and aft) looks much better in real life than in the pictures. They are really quite striking. There are a couple of wrinkles in them, from shipping I assume, but they should disappear with a bit of steaming and hanging.

I would post some pics today, but I have unexpected company this weekend and unfortunately won't have the time. I'll try to do so later. In any case they appear well worth $17.77. Thanks again, Richrail.

So I called home after work this afternoon, my son says I received my package from Orvis and one from USAkilts. Great:dance: and I'm 300 miles away and won't be getting a train home until tomorrow morning/afternoon. So I won't be home until tomorrow night .

That's a shame. Scottish-attire timing always seems to work out that way, doesn't it? I can't imagine why.

    What to wear with 'em
Ordered vests in each color, all XLs. Extremely fast delivery. I normally buy XXL shirts etc., but I do wear a 46 or 48 suit coat, or XL. The Orvis waistcoats fit just fine -- a little close around the waist, but not at all snug. My question now is, what to wear with them, besides a kilt. It's customary to match jacket and waistcoat, but it's unlikely I'll ever find jackets to match the Orvis vests. Can you see these Orvis tweeds being worn with jackets of any other fabric, or just worn alone?

It maybe customary to wear waistcoats that match with your jacket in your neck of the woods but, over here and from pics I have seen from the UK, is is quite common to see non matching jacket/waistcoat combinations. I have seen any variety of colours and materials worn in combination, your imagination is the limit.

I plan to wear them alone and with my three jackets that I have had converted to kilt jackets. I have a camel hair jacket, a black cashmere, and a brown tweed.

Okay, got mine last night and got around to the try on this morning. One clearly does not fit, and the other will likely end up being a tad short on my torso---might work with kilts but not with jeans or dress pants of any sort. So I am offering them up at my costs plus s/h to get them to you. Unfortunately I am leaving town in a few minutes and will not be back to tend to this until next weekend, although I may get to check PMs once or twice while gone. As others have said they are well made of quality materials, but a tad on the snug side in sizing.

XL navy blue herringbone tweed--says 46-48 and definitely more on the 46 side of things: $19.50 PLUS S/H to be calculated
XXL brown box check tweed (a pattern I have never seen)--50-52 and again closer to a 50: $19.50 PLUS S/H to be calculated

PMs with zip codes and I will keep you in order of contact for each. Fear not I will respond but it will be next weekend before I can make calculations for cheapest shipping (unless you want to go with the USPS priority mail rates for a medium box) or get them out to you.

MODs if you think this is better suited to the For Sale section feel free to move----I put it here as a continuance of prior postings on this thread.

I got home from work last night I had two of the vests that I ordered sitting on the table. So I opened them up and sadly they do definitely run small. I ordered XL 46-48, I wear a 46 regular Jacket/Suit coat. These vests are more like a 44-46, they fit very snug so this morning I moved the buttons over 1/2 an inch for a little more room. I guess I'll just work at dropping another 5lbs. should fit fine and I'll be lighter and healthier.

That's good news. I'm glad they'll work for you with just a button move. I'll keep that in mind. If I gain any weight, I'll have to follow suit, so to speak. :)

I also received mine (same sizes and colors as ForresterModern), and find them equally small. However, my wife is encouraging me to keep the XXL (maybe a 48-50) and lose a few pounds to get into it. The XL really is more like a 44-46, IMO. If anyone is interested in an XL Blue Herringbone, let me know by PM: $19.50 plus shipping within the US only.

The navy blue herringbone XL is spoken for by Brooke.

The XXL. Brown is still available.
