    Interesting phenomenon...

Hey there, folks! I have a question:

When I wake up and get dressed in the morning, my kilts all fit fine when buckled at the middle hole location on my straps. As the day goes on, I have to loosen them. By the time I go to bed, I'm buckled in the last hole- as big as the kilt will go. Do any of you other "men of substance" have that issue?

This is going to sound weird but it's possible that you're retaining too much water weight as the day goes on. You could always try taking those water pills for a day or two and see if it helps. Water pills will use up the water in your system so it may dehydrate you also, so be careful. But if you're feeling bigger later in the day it may be the cause.

    good luck!

Well that's good to know! I do live in a dry environment... I was afraid that maybe I was just spreading like pancake batter!

I had that problem until I realised why it was happening, I was eating. Eating when I was bored, eating when I was stressed, eating when I was nervous.. my body never got the point of hunger. And I wasn't getting much exercise to burn off the "fuel".

The human body is a finely tuned machine. And, like any machine, it can only process "fuel" at a certain pace. What I was doing was adding "fuel" when the fuel tank was already full, thus the extra fuel was stored causing the machine dimensions to become larger.

Now, I'm not saying that you are experiencing the same problem, but it might be worth looking into.

I've actually experienced the opposite problem. I often have to tighten my kilt stap one notch (very seldom two) during a long day kilted. I always just attributed it to the leather of the strap or even the fabric stretching a bit when under constant tension.

Just to ad my two cents worth, I've been working to get leaner for a little over a year now. I've always had a pretty regular workout regimen, but I found it curious that by bedtime I weighed as much as 8-10 lbs more than when I got up in the morning. Odd thing was that the leaner I got the less pronounced this effect was.

It took me a while to put two & two together, but I finally began to figure out that I was drinking a minimum of a gallon and a half of water a day (I know because I kept track). Water weighs 8 lbs/gal. so I was literally adding 8-12 lbs to my body weight each day in water. Muscle only holds so much water and then it's done, where fat cells will soak it up like a sponge and, like a sponge, expand as they do so.

I'm guessing that this is why you seem to get bigger as the day goes on, but then return to "normal" during the night when your body is drying out...so to speak.

    YMMV

I must be totally weird - I only remember loosening my kilt at Thanksgiving dinner.

Any other day, it's the same from morning to night.

Between the food you eat, the fluid you drink, and the gas generated by the same, our guts do expand about 10-20% throughout the day. When we sleep at night, we excrete excess built up water from our systems, we go nearly 8-12 hours without eating and about 8 hours without drinking, then what is the first thing we do in the morning when we get up? Empty our bladders before we get dressed. That is the best time of day to consistently weigh yourself to get our true "dry" weight. Most folks don't start eating and drinking again until after they have dressed for the day and are therefore doing so at their skinniest size and lightest weight.

For the same, or rather the opposite reason, the best time of day to shop for shoes is the evening when your feet are as swollen as they are going to get, so any shoes that fit at that time will be the same or looser fit the next morning.

    Ok, here's my take...
In the Army we were always measured/weighed in the morning. The explanation was that while sleeping & lying flat, the body extended. As the day progressed gravity worked its marvel and pulled the body downward. What was slim became... not.
I've always held that I'm shorter at bedtime than at waking.
    Anyway, those were my pennies...
