I don’t usually post my “kilted stories” but this weekend I had some great responses. First on Saturday, My wife and I were setting up (decorating) her room for Vacation Bible School at our Church when one of the boys caught sight of me in my kilt and said “You’re a girl!” and then “Why are you wearing a skirt?” I got a big laugh, and told him about kilts (he’s 4 or 5). But of course he ran off to get his sister to get her reaction , which was the same as his! So I explain again!

The rest of the day was pretty normal, and then Sunday afternoon, we were finishing up the decorating, and two sisters asked their mom why I was wearing a skirt. (They are a bit shy and didn’t want to ask me, but I overheard them.) I then explained to them…

Later we were at Party City picking up some other items for her room, and as I walked into the store, (I had let my wife out, then parked) when walking back to where my wife was, there was a Mother and daughter talking about whether they should pick up a grass skirt for the father, and then I walk by them, and they break out in laughter! I almost couldn’t hold back either! I must have totally caught them off guard!

The best part about the weekend, is that my wife realized later that she thought nothing of my wearing the kilt to church with her to decorate – She’s a preacher’s kid, who has always felt like she was being evaluated by all at church. Wives do come around, with patience and love.

And, no, I have not yet worn the kilt to a church service yet. But we'll get there!
