I piped the first home game for Notre Dame Prep (Pontiac MI) and it went well. I used to teach at the school back 20 years ago when it was an all boys school located in Harper Woods, MI. I still know many of the faculty and the administration and they were quite surprised to see me there with pipes and kilt. Well, after I had piped the team to the field and all the opening ceremonies were complete, I was invited to sit on the sidelines on the team bench. I stood instead since I couldn't see beyond the wall of players gathered at the sideline.
As I was standing there the young girls who wave those flags around in front of the band passed by. They stopped in front of me and one of them said thanks for the piping and the one next to her (age 15 I'd guess) looked me straight in the eye and said, "Will you marry me?"
HAHAHAHA. That was so unexpected. All I could do was laugh and say, "Ach, Lass what a lovely complement." (I am 66 years old and have granddaughters about that age.)
I keep saying, I wish I'd know about the power of men in kilts back when I was 15.
