Kilted on the QE2
I'm planning a vacation for next year that my late wife and I always dreamt about but never got around to doing. I'm hoping to take the final voyage from NY to Southampton on Oct. 16, 2008 of the Queen Elizabeth 2. It has been sold to Dubai and will become a floating hotel at their Palm Island Resort. I plan to make the six day transatlantic crossing and stay in Edinburgh for about 5 days, then fly back. Naturally, I plan to bring my kilts to wear for dinner and dancing, so I'm wondering if any of my kilted brothers have experienced the QE2 kilted (or otherwise)? At this point I'll be going as a single, but I doubt if I'll have any trouble finding someone to dance with onboard a ship like that, especially if I'm wearing my kilt! Any feedback about the QE2 is appreciated.
Regards,
RB

Well done to fulfill your late wife's and your dream. The only thing that I can help with is that the sick bay is found at C-6. Gotta love that English sense of humour .

Why not go kilted the entire time? I do and I also went on a two week Panama canal cruise, the entire time kilted.

Traveling kilted is maybe even more fun than at home. Great conversation starter!
Go kilted all the time!

I'm happy to report that I have cleared the waitlist for this historic final voyage of the QE2, within a week. I started out as #180 and within days it cleared, probably due to the average age of the QE2 traveler and all the associated health issues they have. I'll have my MacQueen tank by then so I'm planning a totally kilted transatlantic crossing. If any of my kilted brothers and sisters are planning this voyage, please let me know. It's Oct. 16, 2008 from NYC to Southampton. The "Farewell to America" sailing.
Cheers!

I have never been on the QE2, but here's a picture I took of it at Scarbrough this year.

Hope you enjoy your trip.

As a boy I had the pleasure to sail on her. I remember thinking it was quite modern looking inside. Apparently I also told my Mother I was disappointed that she was smaller than the the QE1.

Oh, that's funny! That's just soooo appropriate for a room#
Rollerboy, have a great trip. It's a fitting memorial.

London Kilt Shops?
Thanks for the picture David. It is an impressive sight! I've changed my plans for the 5 days following the crossing.........instead of Edinburgh, I'm going to spend the time in London and save Edinburgh for another trip when I can spend more time in Scotland. Anyone know of a London kilt shop worth visiting?
Cheers!
