Drummer's shawl question.

Hello Folks, Does anyone have a Drummer's shawl?
The type i mean is, the type that hangs to about the back of the knee, and part of it is turned upwards, and is fastened around the waist with a belt/ribbon? (i think the flyplaid may be slightly different)?
If anyone has one, would it be possible to have a few photos of it?
I need to see the shape of the entire shawl, and where the belt is situated etc.
Believe it or not,...but i used to wear this very type of shawl when i played in various pipe bands many years ago....and i can't for the life of me remember the exact shape. (silly boy)
I would appreciate it so much, if anyone can help in this matter.

This may be a tough one. The drummers in the pipe bands here in the US typically wear a smallish fly plaid.

The band I used to play with had these for all its members, though we called them fly plaids - I think a fly plaid can be with or without the tapes around the waist. Unfortunately, my father, hating the plaid, contrived to lose his, and they stopped issuing them before I joined, so I don't have one to show you.

Thanks Bill,..and JL, From what i can remember, the drummer's shawl had quite a length of fabric, and the type we wore were frilled.
I loved the way they hang,....and especially the way it turned up to the waist.
In this pic, you will see (at the very bottom) the way it turns upwards.

A "flyplaid" is typically just a big square piece of cloth with fringed corners. My drummer's plaid is different. Its

• much more cloth (although much less than my piper's plaid).
• pleated (at places sewn down).
• not square but longish.
• has twisted fringes (OK some fly plaids have twisted fringes too)
• has a piece of cloth turned into a belt sewn at one end

If anyone has one, would it be possible to have a few photos of it?

I don't really see what's to photograph.

I am a little surprised you recognize the surname. It is not common. A cousin of mine tells me we have distant relatives in County Antrim.
