How much $$
As I hit my 100th post today, I wondered.. How much $$ have each of us in the rabble spend by the time they got to post #100, #1000 and so on... I know that people came here previously kilted, but I am sure that the forum helped fuel a jones or two..
Me? I am not sure I can calculate it easily because you'd have to include purchases made without benefit of ANY knowledge.
I would say $500 would be ball park that would include 2 kilts, 3 belts, 2 sporrans, 3 sgian dubhs, a couple of ghillie shirts, a few kilt pins and other 'stuff'... we CAN get crazy and add in the bagpipe I purchased in Novenber and assorted paraphernalia, but then I would get depressed.

I have yet to purchase a kilt that cost me more than $150.
In fact, of my 11 - 12 kilts I only bought a few of them.
Holyrood lightweight wool blend, was about $120
MacNaughton, muted polyeter viscose was about $140
USA Kilts, casual was about $110
Scottish National GoldBros. kilt purchased from MacKinnon kilts....$100
and my Bear kilt, now moved on to a new kilt owner... I forget what it cost.
Everything else.
7 yard MacNicol..fabric bought off of ebay for about $20
Gray tartan that Fraser and kirkbright had, forever...material bought for about $30
X Marks tartan 6-yard...about $90, or so for the fabric
X-Kilt in predator camo....way2fractious gave me the material
Lindsay 6 yrd...Fraser and Kirkbright remnant, about $40 for the material
California tartan 4-yard box pleat....MIL bought the material from Rocky for about $140
$320 in material for the 6 ones I made, plus thread and probably $30 of interfacing of hair canvas. I guess that works out to a little bit less than $60 a kilt.
The purchased kilts averaged $140
The Gray Stewart kilt I'm working on will be about a $60 investment...and loads of time. However, the MacNaughton, Ancient tartan that's sitting in a bag in my room was a significant investment, over $175. I'm looking forward to getting around to making that one.

Knowing that I was going to Scotland for two weeks for a major professional meeting and some add on vacation, even before I found xmarks and joined, I had ordered my first custom kilt in my family tartan (my avatar), two Argylls with waistcoats (black and charcoal tweed), ghillies, hose, belt and buckle, kilt pin, balmoral, all the family crest accoutrement, sporran and chain, shirts and ties from one major vendor. Shortly after joining xmarks I supplemented that with two more custom kilts and additional sporran, shirts, ties, and hose. All told, over 2 thousand dollars invested before I had gotten my first hundred xmarks posts.
I have not made 1000 posts yet but have probably spent more than another $1500 in several more kilts, belts, sporrans and other accessories. Other than a few handsewn kilts I have in the works or planning stages right now I think I am about set for quite a while. Never know when that special tartan may go on sale or a super deal on an antique sporran my come my way, but I have slowed my searching. Still thinking hard about some tartan hose though. I ache when I see them in other folks' pictures.

Over 1,000 posts.
I have 36 Kilts and have spent about $1,500 in two years. This is bolstered because I bought a Leather Kilt with the $350.00 Bush sent out. My only other "expensive" kilt was $185.00 Utilikilt. All the rest are Stillwater or Frugal Corner, Amerikilt or some bargains on Ebay. This also includes Sporrans, Socks, Flyplaids & Kilt Pins.

I already had a Utilikilt when I started here, so I will not count that one in. As of now, even though some of it hasn't come in the mail yet, I have bought 2 SWK Standard kilts, one SWK Economy kilt, one pair of kilt hose, on sporran, two pairs of flashes, one kilt pin, one flat cap, and four hangers. Probably somewhere around $400 with shipping. Aside from more hose and flashes and a few more pins, I am not foreseeing too much more in the near future.

I have three SWKs two standards one heavyweight, a USAkilt casual, a SportKilt, a flat hat custom made, two caubeens, a belt, two sporrans, a leather sporran strap, Marine clan badge, Marine kilt pin, kilt hose, tradish garters, dang... And I can think of more.. I have a box pleat 16 oz strome on order with Freedom Kilts, I need a waist coat and dress shirts, in the future a jacket or two...
I estimate I spent about $800.00 with about $450.00 committed and probably about another $1000.00 to be in the wings... And that's if I do not order a tank or another kilt.
All that and just 170 posts

I do not really keep track of such things and would probably not want to do the calculation. I have been accused of being a consumerist, but I prefer to think of myself as my own private economic stimulus package, helping others by keeping the economy flowing.
