Pleats coming unsewn
After getting back from Stone Mtn I lay my kilt out and noticed that the lining along the waist was loose on one side. I lifted it gently and found that the top of the pleats underneath it are coming unsewn.
I'm not very good at sewing (meaning I can't at all basically) so I'm looking for advice.
Would any competent tailor be able to fix this or do I need to find a kilt maker and have it repaired by them?
Any and all advice is welcome.

Would you be able to take it back to the kilt maker you bought it from? I recently had a problem with one of my kilts, at the Fergus Highland Games someone caught my kilt while I was in line for the March of the Clans, I took it to the maker and they fixed it free of charge. If you can I'd say go to a kilt maker.

No, I got it from Scotweb and sadly won't be back in Edinburgh anytime soon. I don't know of any kiltmakers in my general area so was hoping a tailor could handle it.

Scott, I don't remember where you got your kilt, but if its an SWK or other off-the-rack version, you'll probably have to find a local tailor who won't skin you. Problem is, the tailor may cost more than the kilt cost you to start with.
If it's a custom kilt, then McMurdo has the best advice; send it back for a rework.

Sounds to me like a perfect excuse for a trip to Franklin, so Matt Newsome can take a look at it.
Failing that, take some pictures and ask one of our kiltmaker members to assess it. I can't visualize what's wrong from the description so far. Someone may know of a trustworthy kiltmaker close to you; or when you have an idea of the problem, you could ship it (insured) to be repaired.

If you can post pics, we can give you some advice on how to fix the problem. I'm having a hard time visualizing what's actually come undone. Is it only under the lining, or does it also show from the right side?

Sorry I didn't get a chance to post any pics over the weekend. I was enjoying some nice weather for a change.
Barb, So far I've only noticed it from the inside. I noticed the lining was loose on one side when I took it off and when I raised it up it looks like the threads sewing the pleats down are coming out. I've never looked under the lining before so maybe there is supposed to be a lot of thread sticking out in there I'm just not sure and would hate for it to all fall apart while I'm wearing it.
I will try to get pictures up tonight if I can.
Thanks for the help everyone.
