Blackness castle is situated on the forth and has seen quite a lot off fighting burned in 1443 when the Douglases,Crichtons and Livingstones were tearing the Kingdom apart to control the crown. It was restored again to be burned by the English in 1481 then it was burned again in 1547 by King Henry. It has served as a prison for the covenanters and was manned up until the 19th century it was staffed by a governor,a lieutenant-governor,two gunners, one sergeant and fourteen privates
