Scottish Diminutives (no not the HLI !)
Can you think of any Scottish first names which, when shortened, are uniquely or mainly Scottish in usage ?
A couple of possible examples come to mind:-
Eck = Alexander
Chic = Charles
Gogs = Gordon
Boab = Robert (okay – that’s maybe not strictly Scottish, it’s slangy)
Jeemy = James (richt oot o’ Oor Wullie Jings, Crivvens !)
Wullie = William
Tam = Thomas
There must be others !
