Clan Abercrombie
I was wondering if any one had any history or info on this clan. My mother is an Abercrombie and that is where my Scottish roots come from so any help would be wonderful. Maybe their is some other Abercrombies on this forum, that would be awesome

My mothers maiden name is Crombie, she is the President of the House of Gordon here in New Zealand as Crombie is a sept of the Gordons (also apparantly of the Clan Donald) but she has often wonder as to whether or not it is just a Family of Abercrombies who drop the Aber as the town her famliy came from in Fife is full of both families.

Greetings,
Most likely your mothers maiden name, is from the Abercrombies of Fife, the Crombie Sept of Clan Gordon or any other clan, is to do with a particular family of Crombie (an individual family) unless you can clearly trace your family tree/roots to that particular Crombie family, then most likely your mothers family line comes from the Abercrombies of Fife.
All the best,
Graham
Another note: Also, it's not unusal to find septs of families bearing the same name as that of clans, and in this case Abercrombie, and aber means 'mouth of a river' and in this case referring to the mouth of the 'River Forth' (Firth of Forth) Abercrombie = Rivermouthcrombie, so it would make sense to drop the aber from Crombie as the family moved from place to place.
