Ordered My First (USA) Kilt • Already Coming to Understand "Jonesing"

Hey, everyone! I've had a strong interest in my Celtic heritage and all associated things for years now, and this morning I finally bit the bullet and ordered my first kilt (and a number of accessories, of course)! I went with a 5-yard USA Kilt in Douglas Modern...I really like the look of the tartan, and I have a way to "justify" wearing it; I realize anyone can wear any tartan, I just personally want to have some sort of "connection" to all of my own. I also ordered the plaid with it (if for no other reason than I plan to, eventually, pick up some "fancier" accessories) and a plaid brooch, a semi-dress sporran, kilt belt & buckle, kilt pin, sgian dubh, hose, ghillie brogues, and a highland shirt (because, hey, why not while I'm at it ). I can't wait for the arrival of my package and to see how my color selections work our together! I also want to take this chance to publicly commend Rocky for his swift and very helpful customer service.
I look forward to joining my kilted brethren 'round the world!

Congratulations, you'll love your 5 yard kilt from Rocky. I just recently got my first 5-yarder from Rocky after having 3 of Rocky's casual kilts. Welcome to the Kilted Rabble.

Well, the jones undeniably sucks. But having some experience with kilts generally and USA Kilts specifically (3 of Rocky's 5-yarders, one of which is Douglas Grey) I can at least assure you that you'll be glad you did it.

Congratulations on the new purchases - we'll see how patient you are now as you begin the waiting period. I have to agree with your comments about Rocky - fantastic quality and service!

Obviously you just need need to move 500 miles northeast so that you are closer to Rocky's shop and then you can pick out something off the rack rather than waiting for it.

Actually, for those of us who do live close to his shop that is a dangerous thing.

Welcome to the kilted rabble! Wear your kilt in good health!

not to rain on your parade - but it doesn't get any easier; tomorrow marks six weeks, and knowing that I'm getting closer is straining every bit of my patience

on the up-side, it has allowed me to bug Rocky with multiple "adds" to the order

and I have to agree - that is an excellent looking tartan.

Ha, I definitely feel you on the adds to an order. I've already been contemplating tacking on a day sporran! I also went boot shopping this afternoon to find something more casual...thinking maybe some sort of ankle-height boots.

I did pay the little extra for the rush order; seems like in one place it said roughly 4 weeks then in another place it said 2-3 weeks. At least I'm going to be fairly busy the next few weeks and time should pass a bit quicker. I'm already planning my first kilted outing: thinking of heading down to the Scottish Tartan Museum in Franklin, NC which is fairly close to where I live.

    Day sporran: great idea!

On the timeline issue: kilts aren't bound by the laws of normal physics. Sometimes they're early; often they're late. You just never know! Personally, I think kilts are sentient beings, and we foolishly think we have a modicum of control over them... All we can do is wait, "jones," and giggle like children when they show up.

I am personally glad that there's 3000 miles between me and the museum. If it were any closer, I'd be poor, and quite possibly divorced! Enjoy the trip, and take a few pics for the rest of us!

    WELCOME TO THE RABBLE!
