Any recommondations for Ottawa?
Canada that is.
Amy and I are headed up to do the familial obligation thing for Thanksgiving and we were thinking of a day trip or two to the Capitol. I've never been there and Amy hasn't been there in decades.

Take a trip to the Canadian Forces museum, definitely time well spent.

Re: Any recommondations for Ottawa?
I grew up in Ottawa and so have lots to suggest. For me, no trip would be complete without a visit to one or more of the tremendous national museums/galleries. My favourites (in order) are: War Museum, Museum of Civilization, National Gallery, Science & Technology Museum and the Aviation Museum.
A tour of the Parliament Buildings.
Lots of good resto's in Ottawa although my favourite (Nate's Deli on Rideau) has closed
A drive up to the Gatineau and a visit to the MacKenzie King Estate
A visit to the National War Memorial and the tomb of the unknown soldier on Elgin St
A Senators hockey game at Scotiabank Place or the Ottawa 67's (Major Junior) hockey game at the Ottawa Civic Centre.
Hope you have a great trip!

The National Gallery is free and quite awesome. Be sure to spend time in the Tom Thomson/Group of Seven room.
Across the river in Hull is the Museum of Humanity(?) which I have not been to but heard is very good as well.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
The Highlander sounds great. The Scotch list is intimidating. Food and shopping suggestions are always welcomed.

Bummer is that we will be 5.5 hours from Quebec City. We are going from Ogdensburg to Ottawa.

I echo the advice already posted re: galleries, etc. However, if you enjoy a wee tipple try The Highlander Pub - thehighlanderpub.com

Re: Any recommondations for Ottawa?
Some very good suggestions thus far..
Might I add, if you do go to the Highlander, that a walk around the rest of the Byward Market is a must! (Especially this time of year!)
Chinatown is also a great spot for restaurants and to see the new gate they built that leads into/or out of the section of the city..very ornate Chinese artistry and stunning on a bright sunny day..IMHO.
I'm very fond of Ottawa as I attended the UofO (Go Gee Gees!) and find myself heading up once a month to hit the fine selection of book stores.
Welcome to Canada's Capital and have a safe& fun stay up here..eh?!
Sara
P.S if you find yourself just outside of the city,in a place called Stittsville, stop at a restaurant called "The Glen".. Great Scottish food!!!
