Yes Hawk, I saw these at Lowes, they have the 8" and 16". the 1 inch looks to be over kill but the 8" might work ok on moderate soils by using a 2' length of 1/2" pipe to twist it. If I could twist one of these off I think I would just sit back an do a 2 fingers of 18 yr old juice

Depends what type of camping you do & what ground you have.
I always have a few if the big 10 in. galvanized spikes for hard pan. Those spiral things are good for sandy soil. Dont bother with those yellow plastic spikes. Ive broken so many of those when they hit a rock.
Thanks knotty, this is mainly for my canopy tent that I use for a clan tent, last year it was sort of like a sail. I had used 3 stakes on each corner from my camping tent and drove then in at different angles, they lasted about 5 minutes "LOL"
I saw some plastic ones and they just don't have anything to grip with, and if I start doing games in KS and OK I will need something that will hold
most of the places I go will be mostly plain dirt to big ROCKS
I've used the doggy stakes as well, with good results. They are also common at RV centers for holding down awnings.
We've got one location where we set up tents each year that is virtually all rock. This year the guy next to me showed up with a cordless industrial hammer drill and pitons—gotta love it. MORE POWER.

Those work well, unless you're someplace where the ground is rocky, like Salado or San Antone... In such places, a regular stake would likely be more effective.
well for rocky ground they had some 3/8" dia steel pins ground to a point, about 24" long. with my cordless drill and 5# hammer. hmm then to figure how to get it back out

I have some shiny steel ones - about 18 inches long if I remember right. I used them at the four corners of a dome tent and got laughed at by the family who were sleeping in their car next morning.
