    Tartan help / Identification NEEDED...

With my surname being BOWDEN, I was informed by Houston's Kiltmakers that I would be aligned with the Tweedside District Tartan. Just the other day, however, I stumbled upon a website which has the Bowdens aligned with the Roxburgh Tartan? Any insight affored would be greatly appreciated...Thank you!

    Perhaps both would be appropriate.
Bowden village is situated in the former County of Roxburgh which is one of the four counties which came together to form "Scottish Borders".
Bowden village is only around two miles from the banks of the River Tweed.
Regional Director for Scotland for Clan Cunningham International, and a Scottish Armiger.

Agreed. There are two Tweedside tartans; Tweedside and Hunting Tweedside. the former and The Roxburgh tartan are both designs produced by Wilsons of Bannockburn in the early-mid 1800s. Not sure who is producing either as a stock tartan but none weave them in their original shades which were, to my eye, so much nicer.

In cases like this, I think it is wise to remember the following -

Spelling is an adventure, not a science!

That being said the name Bodden is associated with the ancient armigerous clan of Galloway and the name Bourdon is associated with Clan Lamont.

Just a little bit more for you to consider.

House of Edgar produces them both as stock, Lochcarron produces Roxburgh Anc. HOE does the Roxburgh in Muted, which is somewhat similar to Wilson's colors (though the blue is still a bit off):
