Asked what my FB friends felt about kilts in the US. More support than expected.

The unblocked one is mine, same color blocking is same people commenting. I was surprised at some of thsoe that supported, and surprised & dissapointed at the last one. (Though I can't help but have a hearty laugh at him)

    Welcome!

Interesting comments. Many of them much the same as I've run into. I just started showing up at family functions, work, the store, etc. in my kilt. My father in law just smiles and makes mild jokes. I don't think he understands but I really don't expect him to. My family is pretty cool about it.

I've run into more resistance from friends, or friends of friends. The most discouraging was from a friend of my wife's saying it was "weird". Meh.

On balance, the vast majority are accepting and most are encouraging.

facebook, james. and not sure why its blurry for you :/
@kiltedrennie. I really expected a bit more hazing, since the selling point of facebook is being able to hide behind your internet; but only really had anything from one person. It's just giving me further confidence

You'll experience some, but not as much as you might expect. It's usually a random inebriated gentleman asking questions or making statements. The conversation starts with "OMG! A kilt!", but quickly turns toward questions or comments about what's worn under the kilt and my current state. I was once was surprise kilt checked by an inebriated lady I didn't know. She dropped the pleats rather abruptly. It shouldn't surprise me by now, but I can never quite grasp why a woman can think it's alright to do that. Then again, she was pretty far gone. If I even hinted at skirt checking a woman...

I've found that wearing a kilt has given me more confidence. I've also become less concerned with what other people think. Or maybe that's just part of growing older.

I recently changed my profile pic on farcebook to myself kilted. I got more "likes" and comments that anything else I've ever posted. Granted I'm not one that chronicles my life there like some are prone to.

Heh I could definitely use with a bit more confidence. And luckily, I'm very very rarely anywhere around inebriated people I don't know (and if I were drinking at a friends I'd make sure to go regimental so they never made the same mistake twice haha). I don't really chronicle my life on there either, but I like to keep up to date with a few peoples lives; and it's decent boredom reliever. I'm looking forward to seeing how many positive likes and comments I get when I get a kilt and post a kilted picture though.

Not all kilt wearers are Scots.
