    Getting to Edinburgh in June

    Hi to all,
I have the pleasure to go to Edinburgh this next june
    Could you advise me about:

-a nice and if possible a rather cheap hotel (I will hire a car)
    - shops where I can buy off the peg kilt jackets

Thanks in advance for your help

I just stayed in Edinburgh 2 weeks ago, we had a great BnB that had 9 flights of stairs to our room, so after an excellent 2 nights we moved to the Travelodge on Rose street, it was quiet, inexpensive and a great center to explore from. Facilities were good, not 5 star. we slept well on the bed, the ensuite was more than accommodating and I would recommend it.
This could be up or down, 2 streets away is a Hector Russel, on princes street, and 2 or 3 tart shops, but some had some good stuff. If you are willing to try vintage go to Armstrong's in Grassmarket..also there is a great sea food joint on rose street called the mussel Inn, if you like seafood...oh and I think i heard 20 some odd pubs in the short 4 blocks..enough sell have a great time

I personally second Hector Russell. Though, I've only ever shopped at the brick and mortar in Glasgow - a couple blocks off Buchanan Street. I've shopped there a few occasions and have been given first rate assistance.

As for the garments purchased you are interested in: Braemar Jacket with matching waistcoat; "Denim" coloured wool & faux staghorn buttons; off-the-peg and fits as well as my bespoke Jacket-waistcoat combos. In many pictures I've posted, I'm sporting the very jacket or waistcoat.

    Just my $0.02.

Travelodge in Edinburgh is a great choice, they offer a clean room, comfy bed and a decent enough en suite, not much more, but are exceptionally well priced (£24 an night the last time I stayed in one - for the room, not pp!). Avoid weekends though, as the price does attract numerous stag and hen parties. The one on Queen Street was refurbished a couple of years ago and is close to some early opening cafes and restaurants to cater for your breakfast needs.

As for a jacket, get a bus down the Leith Walk to Kinloch Anderson, they have a great shop which is worth the trip anyway. Pricey, yes, but quality is assured and they might have some ex hire on sale.

As a Scot I'd recommend avoiding accommodation in central Edinburgh, too noisy and touristy.
You could contact http://www.clanchieftours.co.uk/ in which Lord Jamie Sempill, Chief of Clan Sempill is involved. There are contact details for him on that website. In addition to the guided tours which he conducts, he is also proprietor of a small guest house in Leith which is only two or three miles out of Edinburgh. Apart from the unfortunate experience of the 2009 gathering he has a good track record and he certainly redeemed himself at the 2014 gathering by providing good value for money accommodation for a senior member of my clan society.
