No longer incognito.
A combination of circumstances have seen me out and about in our local town in my kilt more than usual. Usually I'm on my bike and whilst sometimes in my tartan top, not in a kilt. I now regularly have to take or collect grandson from school and as a result of temporarily not being able to ride have had to walk into town for groceries. So now I get stopped by the query "You're Oliver's grandad aren't you?" or Could you ask Kat (my youngest daughter and a hairdresser) to ring me about my hair/can Oliver ...? This is the result of her posting pictures on Facebook. To my knowledge there have never been any negative reactions.
In the past although I have been wearing my kilt, locally I have either been in a car or not kilted on my bike, so other than the neighbours, most of the locals are not aware of a kilted Scotsman in their midst as, in general, I do not encounter past customers from my shop who will have also remembered my kilt.
Most of the time I'm not even conscious of looking any different from anyone else (maybe partly old age ) and tonight when we went to a local pub for my son's 30th birthday party, the only time I actually thought about my kilt was when my son decided to crawl under the table to go outside. My youngest daughter also mentioned that her (female) friends had commented on seeing me around. Although she did not say what the comments were, the reaction seemed to be positive.
So what I'm saying here is if you want to go full time kilted, just get on with it, be yourself and be comfortable with it. Whatever anyone else thinks does not matter and it may, certainly in my case, be a benefit. (Hair bookings for my daughter and opportunities for and feedback related to my grandson.) However, in my own right, I'm still anonymous!
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!

Thank You! Could not have said it better!
Since I got my first kilt a few weeks back, it has been in ALMOST constant use...the only times I have not worn it were for a few days while it was at the cleaners, and again recently as it has been raining pretty heavily, and I do not want to have repress the pleats due to them getting distorted in the extreme humidity (as well as the weight of my backside not helping if I were to not think and sit in it while wet).
It has also been my experience to just get it done with and wear the thing. Over here in Montreal, I have gotten MOSTLY positive reactions...the only ones who seemed to take my wearing a kilt as a personal affront to themselves are certain ethnic minorities that shall remain unnamed, but that, funny enough, wear their own outlandish cultural garments.
So yes, I echo your words: If you want to be kilted full-time, just DO IT already!

Be assured that here with the rabble, the ostrich has removed his head from the sand, because you are well known (even by those of us that have never seen you kilted in person). Since your community has embraced that you are also the gentleman that is the hair dresser's dad and Oliver's granddad, they will get the opportunity to view you as we do, maybe even more readily since your kilt is a trigger for association to your loved ones.
