    -16 Celcius

Well, I had enough yesterday and decided that I would wear a kilt while running errands. I chose my 4yd 13oz wool and double socks. (You can see the same outfit on my gallery, Plains of Abraham2.)

Not bad at all. Even the knees faired ok.

Met a retired doctor in the grocery store. He regaled me with a story of his being kilted in the winter, 50 years ago. He suffered from frostbite to his ear while digging his car out of a ditch in the middle of nowhere (The jewelry was just fine).

Two elderly women in the parking lot made a comment about cold knees. Just laughed.

At Canadian Tire, will purchasing a drying rack for my kilts, I ran into a woman who had immigrated from Scotland. She thought that it was perfectly normal to be kilted in Canadian winter.

I'm always suprised myself when I realize I'm not cold in my kilt. We are about -5c here in Michigan and I the kilt very comfortable in winter.
At least the 'aren't you cold' question is something different than asking about being Scotish or not.

    cold question...

I hear the "are you cold?" question far more than I ever get asked about my ethnic heritage -- it amazes me, because a lot of folks seem to have no knowledge of geography & where Scotland is located in relation to its weather!

Yesterday while going about my daily routine, I ran across a college age male wearing shorts and sandals with no socks asking me if I was cold. No I wasn't, but I was wondering about his sanity since we had snow on the ground.

I just smile and say, "Nope, I've got a heater up there."

Glen, the college kid might have been using methamphetamine or Ecstacy. Both shut down the bodies cooling system and make the users stay very warm. That's one of the signs of meth use, few clothes when its very cold out.

    Todd,

Being in the field of education, You should
know the US is horrible when it comes to geography.
Of course I loved it all through school and even
in college. But then again, I am often going against the current!

I ran into an old workmate/pal named Ingo. Ingo has a very intelligent, logical, scientific mind. In a group conversation we once had about the way flounder's eyes move across their heads, Ingo stated flatly, "ontology recapitulates phylogeny," then grinned at the silence.

We were talking at the bus stop when a man approached and asked if I wasn't cold. I told him, "not at all."
    Ingo said, "heat rises."
Smart fella, that Ingo. He got the concept in an instant.
