learning time (again!)
I got a little silly and bought a cheapo kilt in macdonald tartan on ebay last week. it came in yesterday. i seem to recall someone saying that SWK standards are only worth hanging in a VW bus. i am not sure i would grace a VW with this kilt. i will, however wear it to weed the garden and mow the lawn. i can't say it is AWFUL but it is several magnitudes less kilt than my SWK heavy.
if the heavy is so much better than the acrylic cheapos, what in the world does a tank feel like. somebody throw me a line i can feel myself sinking deeper and deeper into this addiction

I have a couple of 'mixed fibre' casual kilts of around 5 yds - not expensive, that I deliberately bought for generally messing around in. I like them. They fit well (though without the full rise) and I'm not worried about washing them. If I want to be able to wear a kilt without the worry of damaging my pride and joy, then they do the job. Sure, I would love to have a few more heavy wool kilts, but I would probably still have reservations about how I acted or risked any damage whilst in them. Quite a few friends have said they like them well enough, and for the uninitiated, most don't know what the difference would be between them and the 'tanks' as they are not aware of what to look for. If a fellow kilt-wearer wants to comment, let them. I know what I have paid and I know what is sitting in the closet until the occasion demands it. If we are keen to promote kilt wearing, as other threads have intimated, and as most cannot afford a closet full of tanks, then maybe a 'good' PV kilt has its place.

WHOA~~~
That's the ECONOMY ones... not the Standard!
As for what a "tank" feels like:
Ride in the Sports Car and run it with some speed. That feeling of zipping-around and feeling free is exactly what a casual kilt is like.
Ride in a big SUV and cruise along on a smooth road. That feeling of comfort and "security" is exactly what a "tank" is like.
Now. Ride around in a 1980's Yugo on a bumpy road... all the time not knowing if the doors will fall off, the hood will flip-up, or the brakes will fail. THAT'S the feeling that you CAN get from a "bargain".
Arise. Kill. Eat.

Aw cr@p Just got round to reading the full PV thread.
Got a tank though - and I do feel secure with it. I certainly know when I compare it with my others as it swings better and I like the weight on my waist, but it is precisely that that stops me getting any more (and my wife ) as it keeps it special.(a possible reason to curb the spending!?)I've got mid weight wool for the others.

Sorry, can't resist this old Click and Clack joke...
Guy walks into an autoparts store and asks, "Do you have a gas cap for a Yugo?"
Clerk responds, "Sounds like a fair trade."

I remember ads from a Cadillac dealer, when you bought a Cadillac they threw in a Yugo for free
