No New Kilts for a While
Well, I've decided I shouldn't buy any more kilts for a little while. I am really going to try to lose some weight and I don't feel I should spend a lot of money on kilts that will be too big when I succeed (keeping my fingers crossed).
I guess that means I should spend my money on the accessories that are not waist size dependent. There are several kilt pins, sporrans, and other things I can still buy in the meantime.:-D
Wish me luck!

Dave,
I DO wish you luck! I have been trying to lose weight for several years now - tried supervised gym work - no change; have been a cautious eater for a long, long time so dieting, including Atkins, - no change; cut out all alcohol - no change; took up more sensible general exercise - no change. When I was working I was around 12 stones in weight for many years, with a 32" waist but, when I retired, my weight began to increase to my present almost 15 stones and my waist has crept up to 39"/40". Admittedly at 69½ I am not as active as I was, but I still walk a great deal and have a treadmill in my bedroom which I use, so I think it's an 'age thing', perhaps it's something in my genes but both parents were as thin as rakes!
Fortunately, I can still (just) get into all the kilts in my 'Kollection' with the exception of just one, but I do worry about the future!!
Anyway, all the Best to you .......... but do you really believe you'll be able to fight the addiction? ;)

I figure I have to set it up so that I can get the new kilts as a reward.
I have been TRYING to eat more sensibly for some time now. What I really need to do is get up off my rear end more often. To that end, I have starting a training program to gradually increase my walking distance and frequency with the goal of completing the marathon distances at the Freedom Walk Festival in Washington DC next October. I've always found that I lose weight as I become more active, so that's the bonus I'm hoping for this time.

Dave, a couple suggestions that worked for me. First, once you get accustomed to walking start wearing ankle weights. It adds to the burn and really helps. I wore ankle and wrist weights while doing chores around the house too and dropped 20 pounds of excess baggage in 2 months. Second, take your normal portions at mealtime, but always leave a couple bites on the plate. That way it doesn't really feel like a diet but you still cut the intake. It was easier for me to stick with it that way. A bit of fresh fruit shortly before bedtime also helps cut the hunger feelings. Don't try losing weight fast, it rarely works in the long term. Slow and steady is best, it's more likely to stay off that way. Don't worry about belly fat, that's always the last to go. Just stay with it and it'll slowly disappear. Rapid weight loss is unhealthy and rarely effective long term, it tends to come right back. Also stay hydrated. The first weight you lose will be water weight which will come right back when you drink. Don't worry about it, you will burn the fat off over time. Best of luck and hope this helps you lose effectively.

Dave, I did it this way. I've dropped 39 pounds since the first week of July. Wasn't easy since I'm disabled and very limited on the amount of physical exercise that I can do. Rewarded myself with two new Stillwaters, a heavyweight and a standard.
I'm about to reward myself again with 5 more Stillwaters, 1 heavyweight and 4 standards. They will be used to replace 5 SportKilts of the same tartan. :-)
