    Box pleated Ferguson nearing completion

In Traditional Kilts, KiltedCodeWarrior was jonesing over a box pleated kilt he hadn't even ordered yet. Now that's anticipation! Someone else said something like, "Breathe deeply and become one with the jones."

The only way I've been able to co-opt the anticipation is to do the sewing myself. Finally, after weeks of nighttime sewing, the kilt has taken shape and is nearing completion. After last night's steam pressing session, only the liner, straps and buckles remain.

The album below shows it in various stages.

It is deliberately cut high and has a good flare in the rise. My intent is to cut it down later, if desired or if it would make the garment look better (sorry, I can't help the wearer look better.)

    W2F,

Great pics and great looking kilt. Now I have a real problem, Rocky now has Welsh tartans, but Mac does box pleated kilts! Just might have to see if Mac can get the Davis tartan and do a box pleated in it. This would be the first kilt that has special meaning to me based on family history.

And my father just provided some geneaology info today! Davis' name at least back to 1863, with a supposed tie to Jefferson Davis of the Confederacy, and good birth, death, SSN's, etc for all ancestors to that same time. Now I have some new names to research: Peet, Camichel, Claffey, and Christopher.

Good looking kilt , but hows come you chose to pleat to set and not stripe? I've one in the works right now to. After Matt let the secret out how to make box pleats I decided I'd make myself one. Its Ross Hunting Modern 13oz(It was handy, but the 16 would be better) boxed to the red stripe. Matt said earlier that it should be 1/3 the sett size in width so with this perticular one its a 15 3/4 sett. I got 5 1/4 box pleats. Seems perty big but after getting used to the look I think that its perty dang nice.

Angus, my tartan's sett was only 6 1/4 inches, so I got away with a 3 inch pleat. It just happened to repeat the sett. A couple other variations were not as satisfactory as this one is.

Post a pic of your box pleated kilt when you are ready.
