    Kilts everywhere?

As stated before, it is my goal to get Utilikilts in front of everyone's eyes in the Phoenix area. I have designed weekend kilt walks for just that purpose, there are two shopping malls in the Phoenix area that I will cover twice a month and four other malls I will hit once a month just to raise the public's awareness of kilts in the 21st century.

I'm over six feet tall and sort of difficult to miss if you know what I mean. I also walk a little faster than the crowd and pass people in the mall so I can purposely get my pleats waving in front of them.

The other night I was at the grocery store getting milk and as I was trying to leave the milk area had a "confrontation" with a man with a grocery cart. Regardless of which way I tried to go, he and I always seemed to get in the way of each other so finally I said "excuse me" and headed off in another direction. After I left I heard him ask someone else, "WHAT IN THE WORLD WAS THAT??"

My hope is that people will go home and be curious enough to check the web. Perhaps they will learn you don't need to be Scottish to be comfortable.

The funny thing is, I have been out in my kilt and I know three other guys in the Phoenix area who are out in their kilts and yet I never see them.....so therein lies the reality of the situation....us kilted guys are few and far between.

On the other hand, there was a report of some guy waiting for a bus at 75th Avenue and Bell about a month ago wearing a Utilikilt and I know it wasn't me so there are more guys out there......I just hope it continues to grow.

Glad that you managed to maintain your composure...always try to display more class than the swine that would provoke you.

I'm doing similar in Tulsa, only with my tartan kilt in efforts to promote both KiltsRock.com and kilts in general. I'm sure it will be a bit before I meet another of the kilted here while out and about, but I can always hope!

Constant trips to places of public gatherings, restaurants, pubs, etc. Tiresome work this kilt promotion( )

So long as just one person dons a kilt through my efforts, I know they have not gone in vain.

    kilted on kauai

Theres a few Scotsmen in my little island out here. So besides me and my two brothers, there are couple others that have been seen wearing kilts out in public. We're working on getting my dad do wear a kilt on occassion too. I baught him one for christmas last year. At my little sisters senior prom the year before last, the prom king actually wore a kilt, and got a lot of people talking. I wear mine out on occasion and always get pretty good resonse. I was supprised actually. I live in hawaii so the population is mostly polonesian and theres not alot of so celts. Suppisingly the local people love it and i get compliments every time i wear it. everyones curious and really impressed. I got one commit one day by another white guy about wearing a skirt, i just replied, "oh sorry, you must be french" i got a dirty look, but he shut his mouth as his woman laughed at him. Ive ordered a couple more tartan kilts recently and are waiting for them to arrive. I also plan on making or having my aunt make me a couple x kilt types soon. Ill wear a kilt on a more regular basis then. Ive had a few people ask if im worried about someone starting or saying something to me or one of my brothers when we're out in kilts. I just tell them " no, most guys think twice about 'f-ing' with a man in kilt" they say, " yeah i guess youre right" and besides all that the ladies love the kilts.

I wish that some kiltmaker would offer a discount for referal service. I know that I have been a walking billboard for Utilikilts, have handed out more cards than I could even imagine. For what you ask? Other than the emancipation from trouser tyranny, I don't know. I know they offer discounts for working one of their events, but that is not always possible for everyone.
Sorry.. I'll step off of my soapbox now.

Well....let me know if you need more business cards. People have always told me I look scary so no one talks to me when I'm walking the streets kilted. I never get to hand out any of my cards.

I just keep ordering more of their kilts and I keep getting more cards.

Relating to this, I have two questions:

    1. Have you converted guys to kilts? Do you see more guys wearing kilts as a result of your efforts?
    2. I assume that you hand out the card somewhere in the conversation between "How are you doing" and "How can I order one of those" but how much interest in the kilt triggers you to hand them a business card?

Haven't converted anyone yet, but have encouraged those I have met that own one to wear it more often. Have to remember to carry those cards more often, as I have been getting asked more where to get one.

Phil in terms of seeing other people in kilts, try and remember that Arizona is 35,234 sq.mi. bigger than all of Scotland and with a population of approx. 134,632 people more than Scotland. That's just one state. Not suprising that you haven't seen one of the other three people, you know of, kilted yet

I have never run into Bear, Raphael, Ronstew, Stonecold, Nancyman, SpaceMoose, Toddish MacWong or the other Vancouver members by chance. Raphael and I have got together for drinks a few times, and except for the highland games I have never just bumped into him. Stone Cold and I are quite close in proximity, but I have only met him the once and that was arranged.

One day you will see someone else in a kilt. Good luck with your goal for Phoenix.

I actually have a friend moving out near you (Tempe actually) who is a full timer! My buddy Tim, through constant exposure, got me interested in getting my first kilt and he's moving up there for school...... Obviously, here in Sierra Vista, AZ I see Tim all the time so it's not the same, plus, my Friend Matt has a kilt, though i've never seen him wear it out (He says he's gonna wear it friday when we meet O'Neil @ the Irish Pub on Friday) and I have yet to run into any of the Hereford or S.V. Kilties. I figure with so many of us in the area I would have run into @ least one of them by now.
