Scottish Flag of Preference?
I was just wondering, for this particular crowd of x marks the SCOTS, which of the numerous flags for Scots is your favorite?
This is spurred by the colorful sporrans with rampant lions and saltires crosses made and posted by a skilled member.
So (in the form of an essay question):
Which flag of the Scots is your personal favorite, and why?
(I'll say mine later, as well as why)

While I certainly like the Rampant Lion of the old Scottish Royal flag, I'll have to say that I prefer the elegant simplicity of the St. Andrew's Cross. I've always liked the "Less is More" concept.

Saltire here too (I wouldn't be wanting it on a sporran though). Much easier on the eye and also the one incorporated in the Union Jack. I didn't realise we had numerous flags - I was only ever aware of the saltire and the scabby cat.

Scottish flag...
The Saltire, mostly for the story of its origin, and the fact that it has been used throughout Scottish history -- as a ID badge on Scottish soldier's tunics, by Covenanters and Jacobites, etc.

Lion - because it's origins are with Dal Riada, that became the "Lordship of the Isles and the Kingdom of Man", both centred on Islay.

I really like the Ramapnt Lion, but I still prefer the Saltire. Of course to solve this dilema, I fly both of them along side my Maple Leaf.

I love the Saltire as a symbol of Scotland. It's a lot more up-to-date and modern looking. Even though it's really old. The Lion Rampant is great too, I have one on my Jeep, but I think the Saltire is a better looking flag.

With all respect to the Saltire, and thanks to CajunScot for the link on the Saltire's history, my personal preference is for the Rampant Lion. I find the colors and symbolism of the Lion to be stirring to the soul, like the sound of the Great Pipes!

In my travels (way too many interstate miles between here and New Orleans) I see lots of cars with the flag of Nova Scotia on them...especially as front license plates. I began wondering about this some time ago and started asking folks (whenever I had the chance) if they were from Nova Scotia. 100% have replied "What do you mean..that's the flag of Scotland."
