    Canadian Newb here.

    Greetings everyone!

Hailing from Calgary, AB, Canada. I am about to order my first Kilt - an 8 yard, 16 oz handstitched in Robertson Red from scottishkilts.net. The kilt is for my wedding next March.

I had always said that I would wear a kilt for my wedding if I ever got married. So now the time is upon me! I intended just to rent one. I found a local shop, tried on an outfit (Flower of Scotland) and was instantly sold. After finding out just how comfortable it was, I immediately decided that I would buy one instead - mainly because I really want to wear my own tartan, but also to be able to wear in the future.

In doing some research on kilts and kiltmakers I stumbled on this forum, and it has been a wealth of information. I decided to buy online because the 2 local shops in my area are just far too expensive. I have dealt with several vendors over the last few days and while they have all been great, scottishkilts.net has been extrordinary, very responsive and have answered all my questions. They also have fantastic prices, and in addition, are able to supply everything I need. I have read both good and not so good comments from them (and many others), but from what I've seen so far I believe I won't be dissapointed.

Even still, these things are not cheap! For now I'm basically getting the kilt, plaid, sporran, belt and pin. I'll have to rent the jacket and shoes this time around and buy the jacket later on. My local shop sells off their rentals every year for 1/2 price, so I might look into that.

I have to say that I simply can not WAIT to get my kilt. I'm not sure how often it will get worn but this one at least I think will be saved for formal occasions. I do intend to look at getting 1 or 2 more casual kilts in the future. I have always been proud of my heritage and think wearing a kilt is a great way to express that.

Thanks for all the information posted here everyone! Look forward to continued reading ..
