    What is this Tartan?

I recently purchased a great kilt, the people I bought it from said it was a Glen Elg tartan, yet when I perform a search of this tartan, it looks nothing like what I have. I personally love the tartan that I have, yet I want to be able to accurately answer those that ask me which tartan I am wearing.

Here is a pic of it:

Here is a link to the Glen Elg tartan:

unless marked as such, it might not be any official tartan. I have 2 great kilts like that (subtle differences). It was just random tartan fabric from the local fabric warehouse.

I don't recall in searching through the various tartan listings that any thing looked like that.

I looked up the Glen Elg tartan and it looks like this.

It's really hard to compare the two, because the swatch that you posted is not only faded a bunch, but I can't see the whole plaid to compare the lines. It kind of reminded me of a faded County Cavan Tartan, but I looked that up too, and it's just too hard to tell. I'll keep my eye out for you, but if you have a better picture of it, it would greatly help. Take a picture of you in the kilt, or lay the kilt on the bed, and take a picture.

    Good luck!

My first thought was County Tyrone, but I'm not quite sure.

If I get a chance to take a picture of a larger part of the tartan I will do so. Just so you know the way that the swatch looks, faded and all is the way the tartan itself looks. It is actually part of its appeal for me. Since I do reenactments, I wanted something that looked a bit more rustic. I have been very pleased with it so far.

As Escherblacksmith said, it may not be any established tartan at all. I guess in the grand scheme of things it doesn't truly matter.

Thanks for all of the replies.
