    Gunga Din

I just watched the old B&W movie Gunga Din on TCM, Lots of scenes with Kilts worn in the battle against the Thugs in India at the Khyber Pass in the 1890s. Not bad for a movie made in 1939.

I love that old movie. I wish they'ed remake it. I like Kiplings works anyway. But just like Burns & Wagner they really had their "dark" sides

Isn't Cary Grant in it? I haven't seen that movie in at least 2 decades!

    Off to NetFlix!

    Cheers

I remember that movie, it was great. It was a really fine book, as well. I think I read it my freshman year in high school.

Actually it is based on a poem, Gunga Din by Mr. Kipling (a minor poet). However, just to let you off the hook... I believe it may appear in "Barrack Room Ballads" which is an anthology of Kipling's military poems and, as I recall, his short stories.

Of course, the poem is nothing like the film... not a singe jail break or elephant or Thug... still, for a minor poet, it's not half bad.
