    New cheapo Sgian Dubh

Blades are more-or-less SD shaped and marked and the size sounds awfully big to me but these might be of interest to some of our taller (and budget-conscious) kilt-wearing breathren. From Collector's Edge, a knife and sword catalog company, like Bud K but with some nicer stuff on top of the normal flea market stock. Be sure and check out the links below it as well to their other new Sgian Dubh.

And aren't Rubies always red? Perhaps plastic sapphire would be more accurate. If they weren't so big I'd probably get the light brown handled one myself.

    Be careful

I would have to say that it's definitely too big for a sgian dubh.

I ordered a cheap "Sgian Dubh " a while back thinking I would tear it apart to make my own however, with an overall length of 10" it looked like i had a plank in my hose rather than a small knife. The site I ordered it from said it was a sgian dubh but the box it came in had it labeled as a dirk. It would have cost more to send it back than it was worth so now I have this monstrosity of a knife.

Big Mikey could get away with a nine inch knife, maybe - but for the rest of us, it's too long!

I like the way they refer to all the Sgians Dubh as "dirks". Another case of people knowing just enough to be dangerous.

The light-coloured 'wood' handled ones are nice, but I agree, they are a bit too big.

That's nine inches overall. Not a real dirk, but pretty long.

Much better choices out there in the cheap department.

I measured some of my collection coming up with an average figure of about 7 inches. The pictured Paul Chen Sgian dubh comes in at around 8 inches
