    Leg wear

Ok I started a thread about alternatives to hose some years ago, and still the ugly question still looms.
Someone on another thread mentioned Liam Neeson and the use and type of kilt he was wearing in the film Rob Roy.But did you see what he was wearing on his lower legs.I believe this was sheepskin wrapped and tied around.
Now I don't expect everyone to rush out and buy sheepskin and put it on, but I cannot accept that the only thing to keep my legs warm are hose.As a note of interest where I live in Scotland it does get damn cold and the wind is blowing most of the time.
So over the years since I last came to this forum I've been experimenting, and what I came up with are horse riding half chaps. These are calf length and are elasticated at the side with a zip attatched.
Now I came to this find due to seeing army pipers wearing white spats and just took the idea further.

I posted a web site just as a example to what half chaps look like but don't know this company myself.
    Your thoughts please.

I think those look just fine.
I have a set of Tweed Gaiters that are very similar and I've worn them when I've been hiking on very wet days to keep my hose dry and my legs nice and warm. (Wouldn't want hypothermia!)

Those look like they would do the job well.
    I say go for it.

    Leg Wear

Those chaps are very much like the gaitors I wear when hillwalking. Both garments are very effective in keeping out the wind and wet.

In very cold weather I usually wear natural coloured tights (US pantihose) under my normal hose as an extra layer. My wife suggested it and it works for me

I think the half chap looks good and would work well in the conditions you describe, I live in Canada and have not had to wear anything more than kilt hose, and yes it gets cold here.

I have a pair of royal blue gators. I don't think I have a kilt that would work with them...

Many thanks for your kind replies.
Tights were mentioned a few years back and didn't do down too well, but I think you probably mean pop socks which are tights that stop at the knee.
Royal blue chaps would be ok if they match your upper body wear, it is a common misconception the hose need to match the kilt, they don't, the flashes have to have colour that somehow matches with the kilt. But saying that I believe some rules are there to be broken !
I believe the highlander of old would have done what he had to to keep warm with what he had. He did not have the colour restrictions and fashion police to worry about like we have to.
I believe it is sometimes neccesary to think outside the box to come up with a solution to a problem.
    Your thoughts?

I had an Idea similar to that. Black bearskin half chaps. Course it might look a little odd unless you're a pipe major in full parade dress... I might just hafta look into those.

No I meant ordinary tights 15 denier. Hard to tell when being worn. I do wear pop socks sometimes as they keep feet warm. Fashion police? Who cares!
