Youth Approves
So a new coworker had a rough week and needed some R&R. I was making a run over to Colorado City to buy some cheese at the Dairy store there (fresh, unpaturized, delicious) and asked if she wanted to ride along. She did.
Its a frair trek across the Arizona Strip but its a beautiful, relaxing drive. And of course I'm kilted (USA Kilts Semi-trad in Navy).
Her first trip to that part of the world and she did a bunch of shopping in Kanab, UT on the way over. When we got back and I dropped her off at her house her 20 year old son came out to help her pack in the plunder.
We'd never met. He takes one look at me and says, "He wears a kilt!! That's fckn bad azz!"

At the state fair thursday I got a big thumbs up from a crowd of goth kids, one of whom was kilted, though he was in a HotTopic kilt, but hey, it's a start, right.
There were several kilties in attendance. I had a chat with one guy on the midway (Carny) who had actually been keeping a count for the day. He had seen 12 prior to me, so I was the "thirteenth" kilt for the day. It was early, and things were kind of slow in the midway during the day. One fellow in the Buckskinners camp was wearing a kilt that I swear was brain tanned deerhide, but I could never catch him to ask for sure. One of the trade tents even had philabegs for sale in decent looking tartan like plaids (and some "real" tartans) for less than $50, and they weren't bad at all for the money. Better than the first one I got at Ren fair for $65 a couple of years ago.
Glad the new lady's son like your kilt Ron. It's all good !

Now you need to show him where to get one for himself so he can be bad azz too.

What a good ending to a pleasant day, Ron.
Mind you, if any child of mine (yes, even at 20) used such language in front of his mother, he would have heard a lot worse from me!!
Take care,
Ham.

For sure on the language Ham. But if you knew his father you'd understand...many old jokes about school teachers complaining to parents of their child's swearing only to get a raft back from the mother or father.
And the words were used in the most positive and approving sense.
The irony of the situation was that his birthday is coming up this week and when we were in Kanab his mother spent about an hour in Duke's looking for a pair of jeans that would both fit him and meet his approval. Kid's a size 34 36 in pants.
If I'd a clue he cared/liked kilts would have made the suggestion. Will for sure tomorrow back at work. I may have my second kiltie in Page...(the last one moved away).
