Scotland Yard Very Unprofessional, Never Again
(Sorry for length of post)
It's been 7 hours since I talked to Ben at SY, so I hope I'm cooled off enough to document the troubles I've had with this business without getting too passionate!
08/04 I ordered an Irish National kilt for $400. Although their website says custom kilts would take 6-8 weeks, I was told it would be done by the first of Sept or mid-Sept. I set up a payment plan of $75 down and $50 a month to be taken from my credit card the 15th of the month beginning Sept 15th. I was very happy!!
08/28 I called about my account since I couldn't pull it up on their website. I was told that feature of the website didn't work and they had the material and were shipping it to the kiltmaker. It would be done in 2-3 weeks. OK, we were still possibly on track for a mid September delivery. I wasn't quite as happy.
09/12 Still no kilt and I realized I hadn't ordered matching flashes. I called and he said it would be no problem to add the flashes. I was told the material was at the kiltmaker and the kilt should be shipped any day. OK, still could be "Mid-Sept".
10/03 (Friday) This time I actually called to find out the status of my kilt since we're a bit past "mid-Sept". I was told it was done and they had it in the shop. It would be shipped "next week". Hmm. Don't they ship on Friday or Saturday? I held my tongue and decided to wait.
10/09 (today at 3:00pm) Mail came--no kilt. Called and talked to Ben. He said it hadn't been shipped yet and he would get it out as soon as he could. I told him all the promises he had already made about dates. He said he was a one-man shop. Did I want him to drop everything and send my kilt? He'd even send it overnight mail if that's what I wanted. He'd eat the postage cost. I explained it wasn't the time it had taken, it was the broken promises he had made about the time involved. Told him I wouldn't be buying anything additional from him. His response: IF YOU'RE NOT GOING TO BUY ANYTHING MORE WHY SHOULD I GO OUT OF MY WAY TO SHIP IT TO YOU NOW? I was shocked at his very unprofessional attitude and his comment. I told him to ship it as soon as possible.
End of story, right? Nope, I went into my on-line banking this evening and found he had charged my credit card $70 following our conversation!!!
Remember, he is to charge the credit card $50 on the 15th. What an a**!!
I have to leave very early in the morning and won't be back until late Sunday night. No way to contact him or my bank until Monday. I plan to dispute the charge through my bank. As soon as the kilt arrives (if it ever does) I plan on paying off my account with him and NEVER doing business with him again!!! :buttkick:
Oh, IF it arrives by next Monday, it will be TEN WEEKS. That's 4 to 6 weeks more than he originally told me. No explanation, no apology. Just attitude!

Hypothetically the kilt arrives... and it's of great quality... I don't blame you the slightest. I hope it works out in the end for you and thanks for the post. There are plenty of polite kilt-makers in the world. Lenora from Celtic Corner is one of the nicest ladies you'll ever meet. Steve Ashton has been very helpful and professional, even with his busy shop and schedule. I am amazed how personable Rocky from USA Kilts has been on this forum, before I had even been a customer.

I can understand why you're upset. You have every right to take your business elsewhere if you aren't satisfied with the service you received.
I will say that I think delivery in October of a kilt ordered in August isn't too extreme, and they did offer to ship it overnight so you'd get it. Still, charging you when they weren't supposed to seems a bit off.
I'd be careful about contesting the charges, though. You did buy the kilt, and they might put up a stink to the card company if you charge it back. Also, no matter about the late delivery, the kilt is already made. Why don't you call them on Monday and see if you can't work it out?

I think Jersey Lawyer is right about the card thing. As long as he doesn't overcharge you, it's probably best to be rid of that debt anyways.

Although I wouldn't be happy with that kind of atitude either, I agree with the above. If you get the kilt and are happy with the quality, pay it off and let that be the end of it. You've already registered your complaint with "Clan Xmarks", so people will be able to search for this thread for years.
Take the high road and pay it off and let karma do the rest. The Tao of Rocky. ;)

That may just have sold a kilt for you, Rocky. I certainly like your attitude. Surfing over to USA kilts next to have a look.
I wish all bb's had the "reputation" feature that "British Blades" uses on it's forum. I'd definitely give you rep points for that post !
