Okay -- I just might have stumbled upon some interesting news
OMG!!!!!!!!!
I was researching further into my genealogy since I got past the block on McElwain and different spellings and including Scotland and not just Ireland .... and just on the LDS familysearch.org site ... I just got back to a legitimate link to Robert the Bruce. I didn't know who he was until Runewolf just told. Like wow ... I need to do some serious research and save the money and book a trip and get all the documentation to have to like "prove" this. This is SOOOOOOOO COOOOOOLLLLLL!
I'm so excited I can't type, and it's hard to typed words that aren't allowed in a public forum!
I HAVE ROYAL BLOOD!
Okay -- I'm calm again! I already had over 17,000 people saved into my genealogy file (not all related - those are marriages and extra) But this is the coolest info I've found yet!

That's great. Reminds me of the time that I discovered that if I can figure out how to bump off 1,372 people, I become King of England. It's good to have goals.
Seriously, though, it must be a rush.

Hey there cousin!
I am directly descended from Robert the Bruce as well! Good thing too, as the Bruce tartans are by far the coolest! :P

We all do. It's a matter of how recent it is.
We have 2 parents, 4 grandparents, 8 great grandparents, etc.If you go back the number of generations in a few hundred years, say, to 1215, the signing of the Magna Carta, or 800 AD, the time of Charlemagne, you will find trillions (that's thousands of billions to you in the UK) of ancestors in that generation, numbers far greater than the number of people who were alive on earth at the time, far greater than those in Europe, and astornomically greater than those in the relatively closed gene pool of the British Isles. So, EVERYONE who is alive now descends from everyone who was living then, who had descendants if you go back far enough. It's just mathematically impossible not to be.
As some one once said, we all descend from Charlemagne, but we all also descend from his stable boy.
I remember reading the 1960's that about 100,000 then living people descended from Edward III of England. That figure is of course much higher nearly 50 years later.
I have forgotten how many well-proven descents I have from Charlemagne, but it is well over 20. I have a good (well-proven) descent from King John of England, (and several kings of Scotland, France, the German states, Rurik of Kiev, etc) as well as from Edward I and III of England, if you believe the Mormons. And that can be a problem. The LDS database is fraught with errors. Their policy, as far as I know, is to accept whatever research is given to them without editing or corrections. And in days gone by there were many people who were determined to be descended from royalty and other important people, and who didn't let the facts get in their way.
I am not particularly proud of my ancestry. (Nor am I ashamed of it.) I did nothing but be born. I am here by accident of birth. I am, however, a bit proud of the genealogical research that my family and I have done over the years.

Ya'll don't forget us when you're royals. Be sure to be graceful and benevolent rulers... perhaps a title of nobility for me?
