    Kilt hose yarn

For those of you asking about Kilt hose
Regarding your Kilt hose that you are interested in having knit. Please consider the thickness of the hose. If you will be using it for evening, you might want to use a light weight fingering yarn. That would also be suitable for day use.
You might want to consider a chunky or even a medium weight yarn for winter.
Amount of yarn needed will be approximately 10x25G DK if you chose medium weight hose.
Then the consideration is wool, cotton (if allergies), cashmere or other fine yarns like Alpaca.

As a knitter and wearer of kilt hose, I'll jump in and advise the wearer to opt for the smallest size and weight of yarn that's available. Big yarn, on my feet, "digs in" after a while of standing and hurts my heels. Small yarn makes a smoother surface to stand on and feels better, longer. Also, to my eye, the smaller stitches made by smaller yarn makes a better visual line, especially in color work, whereas big yarn makes big stitches which I personally don't like as well.
One last piece of advice: make sure you wash wool hose COLD and lay them flat to dry. Otherwise, you'll wind up with beautiful (and expensive) felt Christmas stockings!
