New Social Group: Kilting Sober
Know there are at least 20 of us on X Marks that don't drink for various reasons. Don't begrudge those who enjoy a wee nip.
Just thought a social group for those of us who choose not to drink might be fun too. And, perhaps a place of support for those who might feel the need to quit some day.
Know it hasn't been unusual for me to get PMs and even phone calls for such support. Might be better if we had a group to choose from.
But main point is to connect with each other in the language of the heart as we trudge the road of happy destiny.
Ron
Mods, guessed since this is X Marks related it was okay here but move it to off topic if you feel best.

While I can't in all honesty join this group, I think it is a great idea! Good to see the support on the forum.

Great idea, Ron, I gave up alcohol five years ago, and now I feel twenty years younger. I'll be delighted to join your group.

Do we need the Camel as a clan badge?? Camel goes all day without a drink.
And, maybe a place to talk about kilt driven "euphoric recall."
In my drinking days I loved Drambuie. So when I saw they had some corporate tartans went to look. They are beautiful.
So now I have this latent craving to own a kilt in a Drambuie tartan....doesn't seem a wise choice to stay sober.
Would be easy to say, "Hey, I'm wearing their tartan, maybe I should have a wee toast of and to the beverage."
Or I could out think myself into thinking it is a reminder of the chaos my boozing brought to the World....but that's about as logical as keeping a neon beer sign at home.
Maybe I should look at those English recovery tartans again, or the Wilson tartans, or the Smith tartans. Have lots of Smiths in my family tree....
This make sense to anyone?

Well I can't join the group either but fair play to those for whom it would be useful.

Re: Drambuie Kilt
Makes perfect sense to me -- no more Scotch or Guinness or any of that stuff. I chose to live and wear kilts rather than drink and die!

I was never a real drinker, I had my moments, though. But a couple of years ago VA gave me a gastric bypass, so drinking has become medically dangerous for me. Would that be a consideration for your group? Besides I learned I can act stupid without any help anyways....LOL

Ron,
Great idea! I wish you well. I am not in recovery, but don't drink.
I wish there were more real life venues for kilted non-drinkers. It's so tired going to smoky bars that smell up one's kilt, full of drunk people, usually women, who seem to feel that any man in a kilt is fair game for a kilt check, and refuse to understand that their drunken levity is just an unpleasant invasion of privacy.
