Getting Started in Highland Games Competition
My son-in-law has expressed interest in competing in highland games. He threw in school and I think he would enjoy it. He lives in the St Louis area.
Does one just show up and sign up at a games? Or is there some umbrella organization of athletes he needs to contact? Is guidance available on training, etc?
Thanks for whatever info someone might have.

I can't answer your qustion but I can offer him a chance to throw. I am athletic chair for the West Kentucky Highland Games, they are taking place on Oct.17 in Murray, KY. A link to the website is in my signature if he would like more info.

He should contact the athletic director at least a month before the games. Since he is new, he would be placed no higher than a B, or a C if they have a large group of newbies. Highland Games athletes are made up of a lot of t&f throwers so he should fit right in. He should check out www.nasgaweb.com for rules and how to get started. I wish him luck.

Thanks, guys. This is exactly the info I think he needs. I will get it to him ASAP. Heck, I'll even get him a kilt.
