Chinese-Scottish Tartan?
Hey, I am pretty new here. I happened to be interested in wearing kilt, but it's kinda strange to see myself Chinese walking around in kilt. Someone pointed out that Chinese people did don kilt in Scotland. There is "Chinese-Scottish" tartan designed for Chinese people to wear.
I couldn't find that kind of tartan online. Also, I tried to find a tartan similar to Chinese-Scottish tartan. I'd love to wear a kilt, but I don't want to wear wrong tartan or get associated to wrong clan or something like that.
I am looking for some dark colors/red tartan or just plain black. I am looking into sportkilt.com, but I'd like to hear some suggestions...

We have two other members (at least) on the forum here that are Chinese. Raphael is a regular contributor and owns tartan kilts, Utilikilts, and I know he has a leather kilt in the way.
Toddish MacWong organizes a fusion of Chinese New Year and Burns night called Gung Haggis Fat Choy every year in Vancouver.
Sport kilts are a good introduction kilt, but personally I would suggest www.usakilts.com or www.canadiancasualkilts.com for a lightweight poly/viscose tartan kilt or www.freedomkilts.com for a solid colour black kilt, utility style. www.stillwaterkilts.com sells a range of kilts that any would be proud to wear. Check them all out.
Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum from Vancouver Island, B.C., pengguu. Check out the Nightstalker at Stillwater Kilts, and Steve at Freedom Kilts has black as well, if you can't find the tartan you're looking for. Have fun!

Don't forget the Hong Kong Police Pipe Band, the Scottish Coy, The Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Force (Gordon) and the Shangai Volunteers (Hunting Stewart). And not to mention the St. Andrew's Societies of Hong Kong and Beijing.
Cheers,
Todd

Don't worry about wearing the wrong tartan or associate with the wrong clan. Just know what tartan that you are wearing, you will be fine. You don't have to justify anything. I wear my BlackWatch, Black Stewart, British Columbia, and Black Shadow tartan all the time.
I would look at kilts from Stillwater kilts. They are well priced and a quick turn around time. You can have a kilt and a sporran for around $100.
And Yeah, I wear my kilts all the time. I don't think that it is that strange. Chinese have been wearing western clothing for a very long time already.
If you are curious, I will be wearing my Black Stewart for the Real McKenzie Concert tonight. I will also been in my kilt this weekend for various events.
Just walk proud and stand tall. You will be fine. You can also pm or email me for more questions.

Welcome to the fray! Ditto what others have said - don't sweat the "correctness" of your tartan - just enjoy having it and wearing it!

I believe this is the tartan you are referring to, and can be found in 63 different products on kiltstore.net (the link on the top right hand corner of the page)

Don't worry too much about not wearing the right tartan. Like others have said, no one is going to be offended if you just find out what tartan you are wearing and then maybe find out a little about whose tartan it is.
I ditto the Hunting Stewart and Gordon. I know a few Chinese friends who wear those with pride.

That's a pretty cool tartan (not many that aren't I know...).
Dig it up, and wear it well...I don't think there is anything to regret.
