Got to agree. I prefer the more traditional, wide apron, but each to his own. I think that the more manufacturers out there spreading the word can only be a good thing.

If I am not mistaken, I believe these are a product of a recently joined member of our community: Kilt This!
The spirit of the Declaration of Arbroath (6 April 1320) abides today, defiantly resisting any tyranny that would disarm, disperse and despoil proud people of just morals, determined to keep the means of protecting their families and way of life close at hand.

I have no idea what that is, but I prefer the wider "A" shaped apron too...
However, I have been pondering a kilt made from overlapping strips of leather that are tacked, at the back of each strip, to canvis that is slightly pleated. The strips would be aranged like the pleats of a kilt, but I can't quite figure out how the apron would be done. It's all inspired by Roman skirt armor.
And really has nothing to do with those kilts, but since it's nighthawks thread...
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

You can hijack my thread any time you want, Ted!

What you need, Nighthawk, is a kilt, hose, and doublet made from chain mail. The outfit would be heavy,, but no one could chop you in half... Perfict for the mosh pit.

A chain mail doublet!! Now that's a thought... You said it jokingly, but I like the idea, and may need to look into it. I have a friend who makes Renaissance clothing. I may have her come up with a design or two for me.

As a matter of fact... I compete in informal swordsmans competitions at the Highland/Celtic festivals in Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, and I was hoping to go to the Gathering of the Clans in South Dakota, but that's not happening this year. So yes... I do sometimes have people trying to cut me in half.
The guy on the right is one of the guys in my group, the Colorado Swordsman Society.
