VA Scottish Games 2009

Who is planning to attend the VA Scottish Games? A new date and venue this year. It is going to be Labor Day weekend, 9/5 & 9/6. The new location is The Great Meadows near The Plains. Here is my report from last year.

Coyote Run will be performing. Sounds like the perfect time to have a meet up. Drop by the Clan MacCallum Malcolm tent and pick up a dandelion if you need one.

The Virginia Games were held in Alexandria for many years. But the Episcopal School redid its field and pulled the plug on the games. For the last two years it has been a Sky Meadows near Delaplane. A great site. Makes you think of being in the Highlands. I understand some of the powerful locals complained to the Park Service about the long lines on the roads. So now its found a new home at The Great Meadows.

You are thinking of the Richmond Highland Games which for years has been at the race track. It too is moved this year and will be in Doswell near Kings Dominion. It's been renamed The Meadows and will be the last weekend in October. Here is their link.

I met my wife at the Richmond Games.
I'll look up The Plains to see if it is feasible.

Finn, IMHO the one not to miss is the Williamsburg Scottish Festival held the last weekend in October. Actually it's quite close to you, just off I-64 in the middle of no where. It's closer to Richmond than Williamsburg. If you are in to Celtic Rock don't miss it! The Friday Celtic Jam is not to be missed. Here is the link.

Actually, you have e a typo here, Williamsburg is the first weekend in October, Richmond is the last one. And, anyone who can make it should be there. Albannach is performing again this year. If you haven't experienced their performances live, you do not know what you are missing. Experience is the proper verb for this group, because you don't just listen to their music, "you feel it".
