2+ tartan kilt?

Hi guys. I was thinking for a while today of what would make a really different and destinctive kilt and the best idea I had (that I actually liked) was a kilt with 2 or more tartans combined.
The main idea would be to perhaps just have one at the front but at the back have one pleat of one tartan and one of another in sequence. You could even go crazy and have each pleat with a different tartan!
I'm thinking of this stuff for a reason... If I sell something (that is considered traditional) within my collection I can afford a new kilt

so...
Am I crazy OR is it a good idea - but I'm still crazy for actually thinking about getting it?
(if anyones heard of this before go ahead and disappoint me!)

I'm afraid it would look a mess to most folks. But then a lot of what people younger than I wear these days looks a mess to me. . .

Before investing, you might try PhotoShopping something up to see how it looks to you.

There are also box-pleat style kilts with a different fabric in the pleat reveal -- typically a solid kilt with patterned reveal or sometimes vice versa. Something to consider.

As for the patchwork, Orvis sells a tartan patchwork vest that has gotten IMHO mostly negative reviews here.

Someone posted some pics of a solid colored kilt that had a different color on the inside of the pleats, but I can't remember what the kilts were called or who posted the pics. Could not find it searching either.

Perhaps a weathered tartan on the outside with the modern colors on the inside of the pleats would like nice. It would appear to have hung in the sun for a long time and faded on the outside, but the stronger modern colors would flash when the wearer moved. try buying the box of scraps from Rocky to experiment with.

Yes - but a lot more orderly!
Perhaps a blend of gradients of one colour in different tartans left to right on the pleats or something
