Proud Daddy moment
We raised our daughter to be more concerned with the traditionally important things in life rather than superficial things. As a result she has hundreds of books in her personal library and no video games. She plays 7 different musical instruments, speaks a foreign language, understands that fashion does not mean anorexia, and can cook anything you throw in front of her. And to boot, she's polite, caring, funny and superbly self confident.
One nite we were watching 300. I asked her what she liked about the movie since she had just told me this was her 4th viewing. She said, "Hunky, cinfident men in kilts, what's not to like" I didn't bother telling they weren't kilts. I didn't want to spoil the mood of the conversation. I asked her why she liked that and mentioned that I didn't think she liked men in the military. She told me that she had changed her mind. She is tired of "Poor excuses for the male gender" as she put it. Her bluntness and self confidence put off lots of male suitors. As a result she hasn't had many long term boyofriends.
Well last nite her date showed up at the door. He's active duty USAF. He looked me in the eye, shook my hand with the kind of grip that told me he was self confident and respectful, and said "It's a pleasure to meet you sir." I can't remember the last time I was called "Sir". He even chuckled when I wagged my finger at him and told him I expected him to take care of my baby girl. He responded with "you have nothing to worry about sir."
This morning my daughter told me that her date really liked me. He said "I like the way he shook my hand." Can't get respect if you don't give it I've learned.
I see good things in her future!
