    Attached to One Kilt.

    This is about home wear.

I love this kilt. It’s so comfortable. I’ve worn it several times. It must need to
be laundered, although not yet clearly so.

I have other kilts. Why (for the moment) am I so attached to this one?

    Was that kilt or cat?

You are not alone. I have a special affinity for my first kilt - a black (now more grey) Amerikilt that is probably ready for the rag pile but I can't bear to part with it. It is still the kilt I reach for when I am at home.

I don't have that figured out either. I tend to wear my Leatherneck Sportkilt around the house. I wear my Stillwaters when going out.

The fit? The material? The comfort? The tartan (or LACK of tartan)?

I go through phases where I 'prefer' one kilt over another. It seems to find itself strapped around my waist more than others. In a few weeks (or months), it's a different one I prefer. That's the bueaty of having choices!

I find it somewhat seasonal; my "ancient" sportkilt in warmer weather and either SportWatch or Weathered Saffron in colder months. For going out I most often go for one of the black ones these days. I'll have to figure out where my new one fits into my kilt wardrobe after I make it next month at Elsie's class.

Because it's your favourite kilt and you're used to wearing it.

But what I wanted to ask was: do kilts need laundering? It's wool - I thought wool didn't need laundering. Just a good airing every so often. But you think it must need to be washed after seven or so wearings? And how can it need laundering when it's not clear that it does?

Indeed I launder mine once a year. I'm one of those brave souls who washes mine by hand in the tub in cold water and woolite, then a wrense with the garden hose. (Of course after I baste the pleats) After it's air dried for a couple of days I press the pleats back out. I've done this a few times now and my kilt is still looking good, though I did go two years between washings most recently... that's becuase I didn't wear it enough to need it. If you wear your kilt to smoke shops and smokey places and bars, or you're out doors alot, or you sweat in it a lot, it's a good idea to have it laundered once a year just to get out the dirt and grime. Only hand wash it if your a brave soul. ~Mr. Siegmann the Hendrick's drinker.
